    Grading A Lot , Like A LOT

Just when you thought I had ditched the progress photos, I am back with some progress. FINALLY! For those of you keeping track at home, and are wondering how long it takes to get a grading permit through the county, we clocked in at just over four months. Be impressed. It took a few weeks for the grader we are lucky enough to be using to wrap up his job and squeeze us in between big gigs (see, lucky!), but we were able to break ground and get some forward progress. As far as the grading goes, we will have a pad and a pretty significant slope going towards our…

Building Progress,  San Diego Native Plants

    Hey lot! I see you.

When we bought our lot 7 months ago, I was OVER looking at land. Up until that point, our experience attempting to buy land had been frustrating and disappointing. We had submitted full priced offers and been passed over, we had been ignored by sellers, there were lots we loved, put offers in on, and then fatal flaws appeared. Currently, the DEH (Department of Environmental Health, the folks who give your septic system the thumbs up) is working on approving our new septic layout, which has been a wee bit bumpy for no particular reason. We wanted to shift our leech field to an area below our house instead of above so gravity could do it’s thing. Apparently, the DEH isn’t too hot on the idea of us moving things around and it is taking :cough: some time. In an effort to not…

Plans baby, it is all about the plans.

Awwww yeah! There has been a lot of radio silence on the house for the past couple of weeks because really, nothing has been happening. When people ask us about how things are going with the house, they are always shocked when I say “nothing”. Things are slow. Plans were being made, engineers were doing things, and finally we have a bit of forward movement. Our septic layout is planned and ready to head off to the county for approval. Our plans are almost ready to be submitted to plan check (which is basically the county saying “Yeah, this house is safe to build, all codes have been met”) and…
