• Storm in San Diego
Building Progress,  San Diego Native Plants

    Hey lot! I see you.

When we bought our lot 7 months ago, I was OVER looking at land. Up until that point, our experience attempting to buy land had been frustrating and disappointing. We had submitted full priced offers and been passed over, we had been ignored by sellers, there were lots we loved, put offers in on, and then fatal flaws appeared. Every time we put an offer in, I had already imagined our forever on that land. Stupid, but whatever, that is how it went. So, when the listing for our lot came up, my husband agreed to check out the lot, and be the deciding factor on moving forward with the…

Plans baby, it is all about the plans.

Awwww yeah! There has been a lot of radio silence on the house for the past couple of weeks because really, nothing has been happening. When people ask us about how things are going with the house, they are always shocked when I say “nothing”. Things are slow. Plans were being made, engineers were doing things, and finally we have a bit of forward movement. Our septic layout is planned and ready to head off to the county for approval. Our plans are almost ready to be submitted to plan check (which is basically the county saying “Yeah, this house is safe to build, all codes have been met”) and…

We have been living in our current home for almost a decade, and I can pinpoint exactly what I dislike about our home (1 bathroom!), and what I love (contrary to many, we really love a small home). When building our own home was nothing more than a dream, my Pintrest boards were filled with house plans we loved. That was all theoretical though because we were not playing with real money. Apparently, when theoretical plans turn in to reality you have to start paying people. Who knew? All of a sudden, paying for the engineering of a two story home…

  • Buying land

    We bought land!

We had a lot of “almosts”. There were plenty of lots that were “almost” in our price range, there was the parcel that “almost” had a septic layout that would work, another parcel where utilities would “almost” reach and a piece of land that we “almost” had, but slipped through our fingers for reasons that we won’t ever know. More than one person mentioned that all these lots didn’t work out because they were not meant to be and something better was around the corner.  We don’t look at it like that, but we did find an amazing spot to build our home that we are in love with .…
